How Each Chair Wants You to Sit

The Aeron is configured around one upright working posture. PostureFit SL supports the sacral region to maintain the natural S-shape of the spine, the seat is a suspension with zoned tension across eight zones, and the optional tilt limiter offers three positions: fully upright, mid-recline and full recline.

The Titan Evo tilts from 85 to 165 degrees when unlocked and holds a chosen angle with its tilt lock. That covers upright work and a near-flat lean for gaming or reading.

To decide, look at the last few workdays. A mostly fixed position at the desk points to the Aeron. Leaning back for calls, reclining to think, or switching between a desk and a controller points to the Titan Evo.

Heat and Breathability

The Aeron seat is 8Z Pellicle elastomeric suspension with no foam cushion.

The Titan Evo seat is cold-cure foam under the upholstery, which holds more heat than open suspension. Secretlab offers leatherette and fabric upholstery, among others. For a warm sitter, fabric is the better choice.

Lumbar Systems Compared

PostureFit SL is one of three Aeron lumbar configurations, chosen at purchase. The standard configuration has no adjustable lumbar. Adjustable Lumbar Support adds height and tension adjustment.

The Titan Evo’s in-built L-ADAPT lumbar adjusts for height and depth on every unit, with no configuration to choose.

A buyer who wants sacral support while sitting upright should configure the Aeron with PostureFit SL. A buyer who wants lumbar height and depth control in a chair that also reclines to 165 degrees should look at the Titan Evo.

Lean-Back Capability

The Titan Evo reclines from 85 to 165 degrees with the tilt unlocked, and the tilt lock holds the chair at a chosen angle. A high-grade spring controls the motion.

The Aeron uses Harmonic 2 Tilt. Its tilt limiter option has three positions (fully upright, mid-recline, full recline), and the other configurations are standard tilt with tension adjustment or a limiter with forward seat tilt. A recline range in degrees is not listed for the Aeron.

Build Quality and Warranty

The current Aeron carries a 12-year, 3-shift warranty with limited exceptions. It holds only for chairs bought through Herman Miller or an authorized reseller. The Classic V1 on Amazon is an older design, and this page does not carry the current Aeron’s warranty or specs over to it. Crandall’s remanufactured chairs carry Crandall’s own 12-year warranty (parts, original owner).

The Titan Evo carries a 3-year warranty, extendable to 5 years through Secretlab’s Extended Warranty Program. It has a steel frame, a Class 4 hydraulic gas piston and an aluminum alloy base with a 27.6-inch diameter.

Cost and Value

New, the Titan Evo costs well under half of the current Aeron at Herman Miller’s configured price.

The Aeron Classic V1 on Amazon is priced close to the Titan Evo. It is the older, pre-2016 design and a different chair from the current Aeron, so the specs on this page for the Aeron do not apply to it.

Crandall Office remanufactures the Aeron Classic. Its remanufactured list does not include the Titan Evo.

Sizing and Body Type

Both chairs come in three sizes. Secretlab lists Small, Regular and XL. It recommends the Regular for 5’7″ to 6’2″ and under 220 lb, with a maximum load of 285 lb. Herman Miller sizes the Aeron A, B and C, with capacities of up to 300 lb, 350 lb and 400 lb respectively. Size B is the broad-fit middle size Herman Miller recommends where A and B or B and C overlap.

Aeron seat depth is fixed by size: 16 inches (A), 17 inches (B) and 18.5 inches (C). The Titan Evo Regular has a 19.3-inch seat depth, and whether it adjusts is not listed. Seat height runs 17.7 to 20.5 inches on the Titan Evo Regular and 14.8 to 22.8 inches on Aeron size B.
